Worlasi

Rap newest entrant, Worlasi certainly has some balls. He courageously cast a slur on the VGMA and already many fear such a move will ultimately destroy his brand.

The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards has gained a reputation for numerous controversies which has eroded its credibility lately. The opinion stated by the rapper is harmless and clearly stated the obvious. The tweet says thus: WorlArmy abeg make you no use your credit vote gimme 4 VGMA. Ago organise some shows this year save the credit money tickets. THANK YOU.

In fact, I applaud him for his show of courage and brash attitude, as it were. I don’t see this as any form of hindrance to win any award that he would be nominated for especially the VGMA. Kanye West is one artiste who has constantly stated his explicit opinion on the Grammies, yet that hasn’t stopped the organisers from recognising his talent and awarding him duly.

Many industry players and pundits have enumerated the palpable flaws of the award scheme to the organisers but they continue to live in denial and still carry out the traditional cracks.

Once revered and anticipated by every hardworking artiste in the country, VGMA has instantly lost its gloss in the eyes of many Ghanaians, of course excluding the organisers themselves as a result of incompetence and some corruptible practices perpetuated by some of the board members.

Several mainstream artistes have registered their displeasure about it, calling for their omission from the scheme altogether. So instead of blacklisting Worlasi in this context, the organisers should sit up and straightened things up for the benefit of the industry and Ghana as a whole.

Indeed gaining recognition via VGMA is an honour indeed and like I said earlier, many artistes look forward to it with much anticipation. That is definitely why Shatta Wale will vituperate them and suddenly make u turn remorsefully in a bid to earn nominations and subsequent triumph.

Worlasi’s tweet is harmless and a factual truth.
