This might instantly strike you as a cock and bull story but it’s indeed true. Biology is mysterious and this story clearly illustrate that.

A newborn baby boy in India was recently born “pregnant” with his own twin brother. The unnamed baby had a mass in his stomach that doctors identified as a half-formed male twin complete with his own brain, arms and legs.

Medically, the condition is referred to as “fetus in fetu.” It is reportedly so rare that only 200 cases have been reported globally so far.

Doctors at Titan Hospital in Thane, led by Dr Bhavna Thorat, performed surgery on the newborn baby and successfully removed the 7cm mass. Both the baby and his 19-year-old mom are recovering well. The doctors successfully removed the mass.

In an interview, Dr Thorat said he first noticed the anomaly during scans before the baby’s birth.

He said:

“I could see bones of the upper and lower limbs of the fetus. The unique thing about it was I could see a tiny head with the brain inside. However, this parasitic twin didn’t have a skull bone.”
