I find it very disturbing that Ghanaians are mocking Shatta Wale for not being nominated in the Black Entertainment Television (BET) awards. There are countless number of musicians in Ghana and Africa in general who are equally making waves with their songs. So why single him out and troll him?

The self-styled Dancehall king has granted his first interview to clarify his stance on the on-going brouhaha about his omission from the award scheme. He said, “One thing I want people to know is that we are not really bothered about awards. We are focusing on how the business will grow. I believe awards come naturally. I have been in my bedroom and people will call me that I have won awards in Germany.

When awards come and I am not included, I am not bothered. There are people who are focused on prestige, prestige is good but I am focusing on making the money. I love prestige too but until it comes, I am focusing on making money,” he said.

He noted that growing up, he did not dream of winning awards but rather drive in flashy cars, build mansions and make his family enjoy the quality of life the rich in society is enjoying and that is what his focus is in the industry.
