The moment we have all been waiting for is finally here. The 19th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) will go down live at the Accra International Conference Centre this Saturday, April 14.
Some top Ghanaian and Nigerian acts have been billed to perform on the glamorous night but one notable absentee is Shatta Wale and it comes as a shock considering the fact that he’s the biggest artiste now with lots of hits to his credit.
Shockingly his arc-rival Stonebwoy is also not performing that evening, raising more eyebrows. Granting an interview to clear people’s perception, Head of Communications for Charter House, George Quaye said on Radio Universe that the artistes that have been billed are equally good.
We have not blacklisted any artiste. We have several big and respectable musicians who are also not on the bill so the Zylofon Media artistes missing on the bill is not intentional on the side of the organisers to sideline them.
We made sure all genres are fully represented and Samini on the bill is representing Reggae/dancehall category.
There will be many VGMAs in the coming years. Shatta Wale is back to the awards and who knows, he might be the headline artiste for next year’s event.
We don’t have any problem as organisers of the event maybe Zylofon Media would have something else to say if you call them.
But according to sources, Zylofon Media, on behalf of Shatta Wale, demanded a whopping ¢200,000 which the organizers couldn’t meet.
Artistes billed to perform that evening include Sarkodie, Samini, Tiwa Savage, Kwesi Arthur, Joe Mettle, King Promise, Kidi ,Fancy Gadam and a host of others.
