Shatta Wale has explained the meaning of his viral Gringo song which has taken the music landscape by storm with its video accompaniment.

Gringo was released few weeks amidst much media hype, and it has truly lived up to the billing as the music video has wowed lots of Ghanaians although few have raised questions about the lyrical composition.

The song is taken off his upcoming album Reign. Explaining the term Gringo, Shatta Wale said the word is a Mexican term, which means ‘foreigner’.

His choice, he went on, is because he sees himself as a foreigner, ever since he re-branded himself as Shatta Wale.

He said:

It’s a Mexican term meaning foreigner. People saw Shatta Wale as a foreigner. This is a stranger who came to conquer the music industry.

I wanted to break barriers for everyone to know who Shatta Wale is.

The Chop Kiss hitmaker has also hinted that there have been numerous requests for collaborations, and as such he is optimistic ‘The Reign’ will be a great album.
