The Bank of Ghana (BOG) has released an upgraded version of the Cedi notes. The Bank of Ghana had earlier announced that it will issue clearer, security-enhanced banknotes of the Ghana Cedis on Monday, April 8, 2019.
The new upgraded notes were signed by the Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Ernest Addison on 4th, March 2019.

According to the BoG, the new Cedi notes will have enhanced security features aligned with improvements in the technological landscape.
The Bank of Ghana’s aim for this upgrading is to improved durability and machine readability which will fight out counterfeits.

Meanwhile, some principal design elements of the current Cedi notes including the big six portrait, dimensions of the various denominations and colours will remain unchanged in the upgraded ones.
