The stats behind marriage breakups worldwide is staggering. Celebrities are humans too and they encounter the same challenges ordinary couple go through relative to matrimony.

We have complied four Nollywood breakups that shocked us in 2017. We are not here not revel in their misfortune but to highlight what went wrong whilst illustrating the need to respect the marriage vows.

1. Mercy Aigbe and Lanre Gentry

Nigerian actress Mercy Aigbe and her husband, Lanre Gentry dominated the headlines early this year when the former claimed her husband beat her physically and tortured her emotionally.

Mercy released photos revealing that she had been a punching bag to Lanre, whist also revealing thather husband was a womanizer. Thus the blissful 7-year old marriage tumbled and that was it.

2. Damilola Adegbite and Chris Attoh

The fresh-faced Ghanaian actor and his Nigerian wife kept denying their marriage had hit the rock despite insiders confirming it to a Ghanaian blogger based in London.

The pair married on Valentine’s Day, back in 2015 at La Villa Boutique Hotel in Accra. Unfortunately two years later, the marriage ended.

Chris later confirmed indeed their marriage could stand the test of time because his actress wife, Damilola was not a submissive.

3. Lilian Esoro and Ubi Franklin

Nollywood actress Lilian Esoro and serial entrepreneur Ubi Franklin got married in 2015. The couple who have a son together were married for a little over a year before rumours of their split rocked the internet.

They however did their best to keep the details out of social media and till this day, many wonder why their marriage ended abruptly. Although certain reports claim Lilian was in love with another man and only took Ubi as a second option, the actress never refuted or accepted the claims. Their marriage yielded an adorable little boy named Jayden.

4. Tonto Dikeh and Churchill

The most dramatic of all the marriage crashes that hit Nollywood this year was this one. The actress tied the knot with Churchill in a simple wedding held in Rivers state , only to end the following year.

Just like that of Mercy’s marriage troubles, Tonto cited physical abuse and torture. The pair traded war of words on social media and it became ugly.
