World Trade Organization (WTO) has appointed Nigerian billionaire Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the new Director General.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is the first African and woman to have been appointed to the height position in the WTO.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is a Nigerian-American economist and international development expert. She sits on the Boards of Standard Chartered Bank, Twitter, Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, and the African Risk Capacity.

WTO broke the news on their twitter page and the tweet read;

“BREAKING: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala from Nigeria is appointed as the next WTO Director-General. Dr. Okonjo-Iweala makes history as the first woman and the first African to lead the WTO. Her term starts on the 1st of March 2021. More details soon. #WTODG @NOIweala
