Many would have thought Mahama’s name would rest now that he is no longer the president. From his issue with accommodation brouhaha and internal scrambling within his party following their humiliating defeat, ex-president is still dominant, as it were on the lips of Ghanaians.

Ghana’s president Nana Akufo Addo has lamented the economy left by John Dramani Mahama and his NDC government is in a woeful state, much worse than what they have anticipated.

“We have inherited an economy in poor shape and I suspect from what I am hearing, the evidence that is coming to me that it is even poorer shape than we anticipated” the president said during the naming of his regional-minister designates at the Flagstaff house.”

Prior to the elections, the then opposition party NPP accused the NDC of excessive borrowing and inflating costs of their various infrastructural developments, an accusation John Mahama has denied vehemently. To some observers, reality might have dawned on Akufo Addo and his government that they cannot fulfil the numerous promises they made to Ghanaians hence their hiding behind this claim to justify that notion.

[tps_header][/tps_header]Whatever the true state of the economy is, Ghanaians want a change to their living standard. Perhaps the president knows this when he made a reassurance thus: “I am firm believer in the statement that when times are tough, the tough get going. This is the time to show leadership and commitment to our nation. I continue to be an unrepentant optimist.”
