Deputy General Secretary for New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen is alleging that a big crimes in Ghana are committed by illiterates.

He as said this when speaking on Kumasi based radio Nhyira Fm on Wednesday 13 October, 2020, when asked about Mfansteman Member of Parliament Hon. Ekow Quansah Hayford killing, and discussing the cause and reason sfor the rampage attacks on politicians in the country.

He argues that, statistics proves that, those who commit high crimes like robbery and murder have low education level. Adding that, the chances of a university graduate to attack someone with a knife or gun just to robe him/her of a phone or money is relatively low compared to uneducated people.

The Deputy Secretary said ” In a research we conducted as a Minister of State at the Interior Ministry at the Nsawam Prisons, people who were jailed for murder cases and high crime cases, most of them had low or no level of education.”

According to him, the NPP’s education initiative; Free Senior High School, and soon to be implemented free Tertiary Education will help curb the situation of robbery in time.

“With the free Senior High School, if implement for at least about four or five years, and proceed to the implementation of Free Tertiary, in the next ten or fifteen years if we still have free SHS and Free Tertiary, armed robbery cases will reduce.” He stated.

He then advised Ghanaians that they should be very concern about their security at all time to avoid falling victim to the attacks of robbers.
