Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani is facing a three-match ban after he deleted a social media post deemed ‘racist’.

The Uruguayan posted a ‘racist’ celebratory comment on Instagram after his brace helped Man United earned a comeback win at Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

His comment was a reply to a fan, who praised him for his impressive showing in the match. The fan posted ‘Asi te queiro Matador’ in Spanish, which translates to: “I love you, Matador!”

Cavani replied on his Instagram story: “Gracias Negrito!” which can be translated as ‘thank you little black one’.

But he deleted the post after how the wording could be interpreted in the UK.

The English FA will look into the post and if found guilty will be sanctioned.   

The FA rules, sent out to all clubs and players – via the PFA – state: “Where an offence is in writing only or via any communication device the absolute minimum match-based sanction in such cases will be three games.”
