An enumerator assigned to the Dr. Berko Area for the 2021 Population and Housing Census told the Daily Graphic about a terrifying encounter during which a landlord threatened to shoot him.

During the chalking stage of the process, the enumerator assigned to Enumeration Area 181 in the Sunyani Municipality, who requested anonymity, said he was stopped from chalking the home of that specific landlord.
“When I went to the house, I met this landlord who told me he was a visitor and cannot thus provide me with any information,”
The enumerator revealed that he later went to the same house and he met a lady who told him that the landlord who happens to be her husband is the only person who can provide him with the necessary information for the exercise.
“When the woman called her husband who was indoors, it turned out to be the same man who told me that he was just a visitor in the house,” the enumerator said.
He revealed that as soon as the landlord came out and saw him for the second time, he threatened to shoot him if he dares to write anything on his wall.
“Go and tell the DCE that I will not allow you to write on my wall” he claims the landlord said. He further revealed that he stood outside the compound to take the GPS coordinates but again, stormed him away.
He also said that he was not able to enumerate the other occupants in the house out of the fear of losing his life in the process due to the threats issued by the landlord.
When asked if he would be able to finish enumerating individuals in his allocated region, he claimed it was impossible because the area had a big population and over 900 structures.
However, he revealed that he had reported the incident to his superior officers but he is yet to find out the actions they are going to take against the man.
Meanwhile, the Bono Regional Director of the Ghana Statistical Service, Mr. Amatus Nobabumah, stated that the incident had not been notified.
