When Ghanaians woke up on Tuesday (30 May) to hear the horrific news that a soldier has been brutally murdered by the people of Denkyira-Obuasi, many openly shed tears and called for the perpetrators to be dealt with instantly. However, the District Chief Executive for Denkyira-Obuasi, Daniel Appiannin, unbelievably justified the ghastly incident with some derogatory comments which received condemnation from all quarters.

He told reporters when the news first broke out thus: “There is a large number of military personnel protecting the Chinese and the lynched soldier is alleged to be part of it. In fact, he is said to be the leader … I am shocked they are not briefing you very well but rather claiming they are here to fight galamseyers.”

Information reaching us indicates his utterances have angered the president Nana Akufo Addo who has consequently fired him from his post with immediate effect.  A letter to that effect was signed this afternoon by the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development upon the instructions of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
