Reports from Joy News indicate that James-Oppong Boanuh who serves as the Inspector General of Police has allegedly been laid off duty as COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has been appointed as the new IGP.

As a reminder, James Oppong-Boanuh who is a lawyer and a police officer was appointed as the Inspector General of Police in 2019.

COP Dr. Akuffo Dampare before his appointment was the Director-General in charge of Administration at the Service.

COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has over 30 years of experience in the Ghana Police Service. He began his career as a Constable and rose through the ranks to become the Commissioner of Police, one of the youngest officers to do so in recent years.

Director General (Finance), Director General (Welfare), Director General (ICT), Commandant of the Police Command and Staff College, and Accra Region Police Commander are among the numerous positions he has held in the Service. He is now the Service’s Director General (Operations).

While working as a Police Constable, COP Dr. Akuffo Dampare became a chartered accountant at the age of 25 and now possesses a Ph.D. in Finance.

He has taught at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and the University of Cape Coast in Ghana as an Adjunct Lecturer.

George Akuffo Dampare Ph.D. has worked as a Special Assistant to the Regional Commander, United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Municipal Police Commander, Cape Coast, ADC to the Vice President of Ghana, Accountant/Finance Officer, Ghana Police Service, and Head of Police and Narcotics Desk at the Ministry of Interior, among other positions.
