With Cristiano Ronaldo grabbing the headlines yesterday in a sensational individual display against Spain, the pressure was on his eternal rival Lionel Messi to also prove his worth.

But alas, Messi could not conjure his trademark magic and worst of all, he had his penalty saved by Hannes Halldorsson and ultimately the game ended in a pulsating 1-1 draw.

Argentina scored their goal through Man City star, Sergio Aguero. The goal, which happens to be his first-ever World Cup goal, was achieved when he successfully got away from a defender as the ball broke to him and lashing a shot high into the net.

Iceland replied not too long  after in the 23 minutes when Alfreo Finnbogason slotted the loose ball into the net after a brief defensive chaos. Gylfi Sigurdsson produced the initial cross, which deflected and eluded Caballero before falling to Finnbogason, who struck from close range.

Argentina came back strongly in the second half but a compact defense from Iceland plus magnificent goalkeeping from Halldorsson ensured the tiny European country shares the spoils with Argentina, one of the tournament favourite.
