Nigerian disc jockey and billionaire daughter, Florence Otedola better known in showbiz as DJ Cuppy has disclosed that she understands the effect SARS had on the people of Nigeria although she hasn’t had an encounter with them before.
DJ Cuppy has had the opportunity to clear the perception people developed about her during the campaign for EndSars which happened in Nigeria some months ago. According to DJ Cuppy, people have the impression that she didn’t understand the EndSars movement hence her inactiveness during the anti-police brutality protest.

It would be recalled that in October 2020, the whole of Nigeria was on a standstill as citizens of the country rose up against police brutality in the country. The youth of the country blocked most of the high routes preventing the movement of any vehicles. There was pressure on the government to dissolve SARS in Nigeria due to their constant brutality on the citizens.
Many Nigerian celebrities like Davido, Burna Boy, Uche Jumbo, Chioma Akpotha, Funke Akindele, Genevive Nnaji, and many others join the movement. While others used their social media pages to support the movement, others also hit the streets to give their support to the movement.
DJ Cuppy aired her opinion in an interview with a UK-based show called ‘Presenting’ on Thursday afternoon. She stated that as a Nigerian she has a role to play and also to raise awareness of the movement.
She disclosed that she has been accused of not grasping the reality which birthed the ENDSARS movement due to her social standard in her country. She however denounced the claim that she has no idea about the brutality because she has been through such but rather stated that it’s a reality that affects everybody one way or the other.

“A lot of people have spoken to me about it, and they have actually accused me of not understanding it because of my influence and my positioning. I’ve never been stopped by SARS before but my team has, my friends have, and it’s really important that people understand that just because I haven’t had it happen directly to me, doesn’t mean that I can’t understand. So for me, I think it’s a problem that affects everybody.”
