And I could not agree even more. We all know the kind of music this particular artiste does is a genre that Ghanaians are not accustomed to— truth be told, it is for a particular sect of people hence the possibility of her being crowned the artiste of the year is slim if not totally impossible.
Wiyaala has self confessed that she is certain that she could never win artiste of the year and she is not far from wrong.
In an interview with Hitz FM daybreak show, ‘The Lioness of Africa’ said:
“Unfortunately, in Ghana, the awards are someway and I wouldn’t fool myself. I don’t see myself winning Artiste of the Year because of the music I do.
If I want to, that means I probably have to change the style to fit in but because I want to be free to do music the way I want to, I should forget it. It will never happen.”
“The Artiste of the Year is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the Artiste(s) with the highest audience appeal and popularity. The Artiste(s) must have released a hit single/album during the year under review,” per Charter House description.
