17 people from Burkina Faso have been arrested by the Ghana Immigration Service for trying to enter into the country illegally in the Upper West Region of Ghana.

The 17 citizens of Burkina Faso were arrested on Saturday on a bus which was on it way to Ghana. According to media reports, the passengers upon reaching the border jumped to hide in a nearby bush with the idea of boarding the bus after security checks but luck run out from their side as security personnels saw them and arrested them.

ASI Kingsford Agyakumhene, Lawra Municipal Commander of the Ghana Immigration Service has hinted that the 17 arrested Burkinabes (11 men and 6 women) will be repatriated to Burkina Faso on Sunday, 5th April 2020. Ghana has closed it borders under the directive of the president of Ghana, Nana Akuffo Addo to help curb the spread of the ravaging coronavirus infections in the country.

Borders are closed to all vehicles and foreign nationals except vehicles coming in with goods.
