The Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) has elected Ghana President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the new Chair of the community.

The meeting which was the 57th Ordinary Session of the Community for the election was held on Monday 7 September, 2020 in Niamey, the capital of the Republic of Niger.

The meeting in which the head states of ECOWAS members attended, was  centered around the Corona Virus pandemic situation in West Africa, the ECOWAS Single Currency Programme, and the political impasse in Mali.

Information Minister of Ghana, Honorable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has congratulated His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his newly won position in the political space in a tweet.

He tweete “ECOWAS leaders a few minutes ago elected President Nana Addo as their new chairman. Mr President’s leadership continues to inspire many even beyond our borders. Congratulations sir.f”

He has therefore encouraged Ghanaians to admonish the good leadership and work of the president and vote for him to retain the presidential seat in the 2020 December 7 elections.
