Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen is awake and stable in hospital after the Denmark talisman collapsed on the pitch during his country’s game with Finland.

Christian collapsed towards the end of the first half while receiving a throw-in near the touchline during his sides Group B clash with Finland.

Referee Anthony Taylor immediately called the medical team to attend to the player as Eriksen’s teammates formed a protective shield around their countryman as he was given CPR.

The Finish players and staff as well as the officials left the field as screens were erected around Eriksen while his partner was consoled by captain Simon Kjaer and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The 29 year old was taken off from the field on a stretcher before photos began to circulate on social media of him sitting up as he left the pitch.

UEFA has released a statement confirming the player was in stable condition.

The statement reads: “Following the medical emergency involving Denmark’s player Christian Eriksen, a crisis meeting has taken place with both teams and match officials and further information will be communicated at 19:45 CET.
