Step aside Nicki, Cardi is the new hip-hop bi*ch! Cardi B’s Bodak Yellow has gained widespread recognition within a relatively short period and pushing the rapper to the ladder of all time female greats (it’s early tho).
“Bodak Yellow” made history as the first solo song by a female rapper to hit number one on the charts in 23 years. The last song to achieve this milestone is Lauryn Hill’s “Doo-Wop (That Thing).”
And now, the song is the number one song in America for three consecutive weeks. This means Cardi now has the longest running number one solo song by a female rapper in history.
-how about that?
In an exclusive interview with VIBE, Bronx native rapper said:
“I know this means everything to my family and to my friends, and to the girls I used to dance with.”
“Because this doesn’t happen to people like us or where I came from. I know that they are genuinely happy for me, that’s why they came up here.”
Could Cardi be slowly upstaging Nicki? Only time will tell.
