The Lagos Government has released a statement disclosing the number of charges Nigerian Yoruba actor Baba Ijesha will be facing in court following his arrest.

Baba Ijesha has been arrested for an alleged rape and sexually assaulting a minor. The Attorney General of Lagos and commission of Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo has disclosed in a press statement on Tuesday.

According to Mrs. Onigbanjo she has been advised on the case by the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), that the suspect will be tried under five provisions of the cirminal law of Lagos States. The charges and implication stated in the press state by the Lagos Government are….

1)Section 135, Indecent Treatment of a child- punishable by 7 years imprisonment,
(2)Section 137- Defilement of a Child-, punishable by life imprisonment,
(3) Section 261. Sexual Assault by Penetration- punishable by life imprisonment,
(4) Section 262- Attempted Sexual Assault by Penetration, punishable by 14 years imprisonment and
(5) Section 26 3, Sexual Assault-punishable by 3 years imprisonment.
Also noted in the statement is the fact that plans have also been concluded to charge the actor to court.

“Whilst the State would ensure that Mr. Olanrewaju James’s rights as enshrined in the Constitution are upheld, the Ministry of Justice would not relent in its efforts in ensuring that whoever sexually abuses any resident of Lagos State is speedily brought to book” a part of the release states.

The Yoruba actor has been in police custody since April 22 after he was accused of raping a minor. According to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, the case file of Baba Ijesha was sent to them for advice. And was recommended by that Mr. Olanrewaju that he be charged under the following provisions of the criminal law of Lagos, 2015.
