This morning, the president revealed the government intentions of investing the said amount into the senior national team the Black Stars in their campaign for the upcoming 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifiers and the upcoming African Nations Tournament (AFCON).

Nana Addo stated the government through the Ministry of Sports has already budgeted for $15 million and will be seeking to raise the additional $10 million from corporate institutions in the country and the diaspora to top up.

This news didn’t not sound well in the ears of most Ghanaians and some high level sports pundits in the country as they are worried about how money is being bumped into the senior national team but yet fail to win a single trophy.

Atta Poku this afternoon on his submission on the famous ‘Wontumi Sports’ show aired on Wontumi radio and television slammed the president for trying to bump the said amount into the Black Stars whiles many Ghanaians are looking up to him to fix the current power crisis ‘dumsor’ in the country.

In a series of tweets, he quizzed why the government will think the Black Stars has since failed to win any trophy for the nation because they were not given enough funds during the various tournaments.

Read some of his tweets below;

We don’t know what is causing Dumsor but we know monetizing Black Stars is a recipe for FAILURE.

You’re doing so well building sporting infrastructure all over Ghana but you want to stop or reduce it and give money to Black Stars? Akufo Addo didn’t learn from AFCON 2019. Ei but how?

He stated they will not allow the government to waste the money on the Black Stars whiles he can use the money to fix the dumsor situation we facing;

This Black Stars will need a Miracle to win AFCON. This Black Stars will need a Miracle to qualify for the World Cup let alone get to Round of 16. We won’t allow that money to be wasted.

It is the Regional Chairman’s own platform that I will use to go after this policy. We will provide alternatives that can put that money to good use.
