Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu has reported that some armed police officers have robbed a barber of N500,000 at upper Ikweka in Onitsha.

The Director-General Behind Bars Human Rights Foundation Harrison Gwamnishu disclosed how he was approached by a barber who told him how he was robbed by some rogue armed police officers who were dispatched to Anambra State Police Command in broad daylight.

According to the human activist, the barber disclosed that he was arrested inside public transportation around Upper Iweka, Onitsha by the armed policemen who profiled and tagged him as a “Yahoo” Boy” due to how he was dressed.

Explaining further, the human activist said the barber was subjected to torture and detention without any cogent reason.

In his words….

“They searched his phone and saw a bank account balance of about N700,000 and forced him to a POS operator. They further threatened to open fire on him (shoot him) if he refused to cooperate with them.

“At about 09:30 am the same day, he was able to withdraw N500,000 which he handed to them cash before he was freed. (No evidence of payment, No trace of them).”

“On the 24th, March 2021 after he reported, It took the intervention/intelligence effort of Behind Bars Family led by @Harrison Gwamnishu to track their location, and a petition was written and approved by Anambra State Police Commissioner.”
