There are some brilliant young men and women from both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) who can definitely become president in Ghana one day.

Let’s take a look at them.

1. Zanetor Agyemang Rawlings

Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings is the eldest daughter of the 1st President under the 4th Republic of Ghana Jerry Rawlings and former first lady Nana Konadu Agyemang. She is currently MP for Klottey Korley constituency in Accra. Although she does not have her father’s brash persona, her own calm demenaour and intellect have brought her this far in the political terrain.

2. Sammy Awuku

The 36-year old National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Board Chairman of the National Youth Employment Agency is one of the finest young politicians in the country. He has risen through the ranks of the party to become one of the finest and most reliable young men in the NPP. He was a member of the political community when he was a student at the University of Ghana. He worked at the NPP’s Communications Directorate as the Deputy Communications Director.

3. Sammy Gyamfi

Sammy Gyamfi is an intelligent young man and we won’t be surprised at all if he becomes the president of this country one day. He’s currently the Communication Director of the largest opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Interestingly, Sammy Awuku was a former member of the New Patriotic Party during his time at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science And Technology (KNUST). He was a member of the TESCON group until discrimination and intolerance in the group made him cross carpet to the NDC.

Mr Gyamfi has been an active member of the Communications Team of the NDC over the last ten years and has played various roles for the NDC in both the Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo Regions. He was the Communications Director of Ibrahim Mahama’s Exton Cubic Mining Group.

4. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah

The 38-year old Information Minister is one of the best young politicians in Ghana and this is a fact that is generally held by Ghanaians notwithstanding one’s political affiliation. He recently demonstrated this political acumen when he floored GHOne’s Serwaa Amihere during an interview. During the said interview, Serwaa Amihere tried to pin the infamous by- election violence which was believed to have been started by the NPP in the Ayawaso West Wuogon in 2019 on the Honourable minister.

There were indiscriminate shootings started off by the National Security Personnel which resulted in the death of one person with several others injured.

In a statement which was out together by Coalition of National Anti-corruption Civil Society Organization (CSOs) when the incident happened, described the shooting of party members and agents at the Ayawaso constituency as worrying and heartbreaking.

‘The recorded violent confrontations between the purported masked National Security Personnel and uniformed police personnel is very dangerous for our democracy that can trigger a chain of unwarranted reactions,’ the organization stated.

They further noted that Ghana’s ‘peace’ brand should not be tampered with by the actions of some few irresponsible citizens, for which reason government ought to ‘immediately investigate these acts of violence and criminality displayed by the masked men and make public the reports on the investigation and as well as bring the perpetrators to book’.

Fast forward and Serwaa Amihere was asking Kojo Oppong Nkrumah about this issue, asking ‘Why haven’t the people who participated in the violence in Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election been punished?’ Amihere quizzed Kojo Oppong Nkrumah during the interview. Which people and what was the recommendation of punishment that has not been executed?’ the Minister retorted. This badly exposed Serwaa Amihere as an ‘unfinished’ journalist while establishing Kojo Oppong Nkrumah’s ‘brand’ as good politician.

5. Haruna Iddrisu

Haruna Iddrisu has a charismatic personality that could make him a great leader if he tries to run for the presidency one day. Though relatively young, he cuts across as someone who mixes very well with the elderly, his compatriots and even those many of the nation’s executive politicians will avoid going close to, have a place in his heart.

Born some 49 years ago in Tamale, Haruna attended Tamale Senior High School (one of the best in northern Ghana) and proceeded to the University of Ghana between 1993 and 1997 where he obtained B.A. (Hons) in Sociology. He is a barrister at law and has been a member of the Ghana Bar Association since 2002. Haruna is happily married with children. He is the kind of person whom you can easily mingle with no matter your party colours.

6. John Dumelo

John Dumelo is already a household name in Ghana and Africa relative to the silver screen. He has won a lot of hearts with his mannerisms and interpretations of roles as an actor. His transitioning into politics did not come as a surprise as he has been subtly backing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for years now on social media. As a politician, he has endeared himself well to party faithfuls. John Dumelo knew what he was getting himself into when he decided to become a politician and enter parliament on behalf of the people of the Ayawaso West Wuogon. The vituperations from his political opponents, precisely the NPP has been unending. He has handled all this with tact and this is something that has made him more popular. Regardless of the outcome of the elections against Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the NPP come December 7, 2020, John Dumelo is a possible candidate for the presidency in future.

7.  Adwoa Sarfo

The baby mama of Kennedy Agyapong is the NPP Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya constituency. She is the Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament and also the Minister of State in Charge of Public Procurement. She happens to be the daughter of Ghanaian business mogul, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
