The constant verbal abuse hurled at the presidency is really a bad practise that should stop. Besides the presidency, other high ranking people in public positions who are insulted on daily bases fuelled by partisan politics should also cease. What at is the crime of Mahama? Freedom of speech and social media has made people with loose morals contract verbal diarrhoea. When Kuffour was in power, he suffered the same fate. However Mills and Mahama appear to be the most vilified.

We are gradually eroding the moral fibre that represents our identity. Do we want to plunge the country back into the dark ages where people were brutally assaulted for expressing harmless opinions? Even in this our current dispensation countries like North Korea, Central African Republic, Nigeria and Gambia will snuff the life out of anyone who dare pass derogatory and inflammatory against the president.  But here in Ghana people sit on radio and insult and cast insinuations aimed the president without any shred of fear. When a Kojo Yankson , a radio presenter with Joy FM throws caution to the dogs and refer a president as an armed robber, you could the extent how politics have clouded the faculties of so called intellect in the country.

My displeasure at this appalling attitude is not of defence of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama but anyone who is in authority. Like I clearly pointed out, former presidents have suffered the same hate serum injected into their hard won reputation. The leader of Ghana’s biggest opposition party and president elect, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo has also his share of this crazy attitude of Ghanaians.

What legacy are we leaving for kids? What ultimate objective does insult laced with malice and hatred achieve? We don’t respect authority anymore which can trigger dire consequences if we allow this to continue. And the most interesting is that some opinion leaders and the clergy are quiet over this but will pass comments on issues that is not their cup of tea.

There are more civil and convenient ways of addressing an issues without recourse to insult. If we claim we are Christians and Muslims and our principles frown upon this, then we better exhibit godly character and stop this nonsense!
