It is simply amazing how people continue to demonstrate gross stupidity all in the name of religion. In Africa, anything that has the name ‘Jesus’ attached to it is enough to make people succumb to the level of extreme vulnerability. As a result modern day pastors continue to exploit these gullible people on daily bases.

A South African Prophet, Theo Bongani Maseko of the Breath of Christ Ministries in Daveyton has made his church members consume engine, claiming among another things it has the ability to heal them from HIV.

He also told them the hazardous chemical tastes like honey and as expected they all believed him. They subsequently drank the liquid enthusiastically. Though the act has been widely condemned, Bongani has justified his actions by saying those who partook in the drinking had been saved, healed and delivered.

“When we pray over anything, its poison dies. So it can’t harm people. Nothing happened, no one has been able admitted to hospital, and the congregants who had drunk the engine cleaner had been saved, healed and delivered” the controversial prophet said.

Commission for Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Religious, Cultural and Linguistic Communities Chairperson, Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva has cautioned religious leaders to refrain from these nefarious acts which put Christianity in a bad light.

We hope Christians will be prudent and identify these false prophets to help restore sanity in the Christendom. This nonsense has to stop.
